Trauma and PTSD Therapy in California

Are Past Experiences Still Affecting Your Life Today?

Trauma can leave lasting effects long after a difficult experience has ended. You may find yourself feeling constantly on edge, overwhelmed by emotions, disconnected from others, or stuck in survival mode. Sometimes the impact of trauma is obvious, while other times it shows up through anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, or a persistent feeling that something isn't quite right.

Trauma can result from a single distressing event or from ongoing experiences that left you feeling unsafe, powerless, or unsupported.

You may experience:

  • Intrusive memories or unwanted thoughts
  • Flashbacks or nightmares
  • Feeling constantly alert or on guard
  • Difficulty relaxing or feeling safe
  • Avoiding people, places, or situations that trigger distress
  • Emotional numbness or disconnection
  • Anxiety, panic, or overwhelming stress
  • Difficulty trusting others
  • Feelings of guilt, shame, or self-blame
  • Problems with sleep, concentration, or emotional regulation

If these experiences sound familiar, know that your reactions make sense in the context of what you have been through. Healing is possible, and therapy can help you process difficult experiences and move forward with greater confidence and peace.

Understanding PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. PTSD is not a sign of weakness. It is a natural response to overwhelming experiences that can affect how the brain and body respond to perceived danger.

People with PTSD may feel trapped between the past and the present, as if their nervous system remains on high alert even when they are safe. Therapy can help reduce these symptoms and support recovery by helping the brain and body process traumatic experiences more effectively.

How Therapy Can Help

Trauma therapy is not about reliving painful experiences without purpose. It is about creating a safe and supportive environment where healing can occur at a pace that feels manageable.

Together, we can work to:

  • Understand how trauma is affecting your life today
  • Reduce symptoms of anxiety, hypervigilance, and overwhelm
  • Process traumatic experiences in a safe and structured way
  • Develop effective coping and grounding skills
  • Strengthen emotional regulation
  • Rebuild a sense of safety, trust, and self-confidence
  • Create meaningful changes that support long-term healing

The goal is not to erase the past, but to help you move forward without feeling controlled by it.

My Approach to Trauma and PTSD Treatment

I believe therapy should be tailored to each client's unique experiences, goals, and preferences. Healing from trauma is a personal process, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

I utilize evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), an effective treatment for PTSD that helps individuals identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs that may have developed after traumatic experiences.

I also incorporate Brainspotting, which can help access and process experiences that may be difficult to fully express through words alone.

Additional approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and client-centered therapy may be integrated based on your needs and treatment goals.

Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan that supports healing, resilience, and lasting change.

Improvement Is Possible

Living with the effects of trauma or PTSD can feel exhausting and isolating, but you do not have to navigate it alone. With support, it is possible to process painful experiences, reduce symptoms, and build a life that feels more connected, meaningful, and fulfilling.

If you're ready to take the next step, I invite you to schedule an appointment to learn how trauma-informed therapy can support your healing journey.
